Selena
She broke down the walls of the music industry in her roles as a performer, singer and designer. Her dual function as an Mexican American singer was traditional and contemporary. She brought Tejano into the mainstream through her ingenuity. The tragic loss of her life shattered her growing popularity and, it is what happens often when a bright deeply genial singer dies too young, it caused many to grieve all the untapped potential. In order to prevent her accomplishments from being forgotten many of her fans in these past few times have been motivated to do even more. The death of Selena triggered emotion in Latino culture that can be likened to Elvis Presley, and John Lennon. A hugely popular Latino performer in North America, Selena's music has touched the lives of many throughout the world. Selena may have been hailed by some as a Latina Madonna, but she's still a fantastic example to follow. Selena's family values off stage and her participation with AIDS awareness programs provide a great example.
